Professional Guide: For Professional Use Only

Safe Application of Gel Nail Products:
For Qualified Nail Technicians Only
Gel nail systems are safe professional cosmetic products when used correctly.
Improper application, skin contact, or under-curing can significantly increase the risk of irritation or sensitisation.
1. Client & Technician Safety Checks
✔ Perform a visual nail and skin assessment
✔ Do not proceed if there is broken skin, infection, inflammation, or unknown nail conditions
✔ Ensure hands are clean and sanitised
✔ Technician should wear nitrile gloves where appropriate
⚠️ Do not apply gel products on compromised skin or nails.
2. Correct Nail Preparation
✔ Remove all non-living cuticle from the nail plate
✔ Shape and lightly buff the natural nail (do not over-file)
✔ Remove all dust thoroughly
✔ Dehydrate the nail plate only — avoid skin contact
Proper prep ensures adhesion and reduces product lifting and skin exposure.
3. Controlled Product Application
✔ Use minimal product amounts
✔ Maintain a clear margin from cuticles and sidewalls (approx. 1 mm)
✔ Never flood the cuticle area
✔ Immediately remove any product from skin before curing
⚠️ Gel products must never be cured on skin.
4. Layer Thickness & Structure
✔ Apply thin, even layers
✔ Build structure gradually
✔ Flash cure when required
✔ Avoid thick applications that may under-cure internally,
Thicker layers increase heat spikes and uncured residue risk.
5. Proper Curing Practices
✔ Use a professional LED/UV lamp suitable for the product system
✔ Follow manufacturer-specified cure times exactly
✔ Ensure correct hand positioning
✔ Pay extra attention to thumbs and curved nail plates
Under-curing leaves reactive ingredients on the nail surface.
6. Avoid Skin Contact with Uncured Product
✔ Never touch uncured gel with bare hands
✔ Do not wipe uncured product from skin without gloves
✔ Clean brushes immediately if contaminated
Uncured gel contains active monomers that may cause sensitisation upon skin exposure.
7. Completion & Finishing
✔ Fully cure final layer
✔ Remove inhibition layer only after complete curing (if applicable)
✔ Apply cuticle oil after all curing steps are complete
✔ Wash or sanitise hands post-service
8. Client Aftercare Education
✔ Advise clients not to pick or peel enhancements
✔ Recommend professional removal only
✔ Instruct clients to discontinue use and seek advice if irritation occurs.
Professional Compliance Note:
Gel nail products are classified as cosmetics in Australia. In Australia, cosmetic products are defined by their intended use. Professional nail systems, including gel products, are classified as cosmetics as they are applied externally to the nail for beautifying and protective purposes and do not alter the body’s structure or function. When used as directed, cosmetic products are considered safe under Australian regulations and industry standards. All cosmetic products, including professional nail systems, may cause irritation or sensitivity if used incorrectly or contrary to instructions.Professional-only designation relates to required training and correct application, not product classification. Proper application and curing significantly reduce this risk.
